The Daily Nickel

1. Breaking News: Bin Laden is Dead at 50- Alright, you got us... its not really breaking news and not quite the Daily Nickel's usual fare.  But, its been a few days and plenty of athletes have had the opportunity to look like arses sharing their thoughts on the whole deal.  Rashard Mendenhall seems to be feeling pretty good about himself these days and feels like his non-thoughts are worth sharing.  So far he has sided with Adrian Peterson on the NFL players=slaves issue and now he is on Team Bin Laden.  Ultimately we believe this will significantly negatively effect his fantasy draft position.

2. Breaking News: Texas Rangers Dead Too- Not near as widely reported on, in fact, the Dallas Morning News still has them in the top 5 in their power rankings.  They must be watching different games than us.  Our starting pitching is slowly unraveling, our bullpen is way gone, and our bats are coming through very streaky.  There is some hope on the way with Tommy Hunter and Neftali due in Frisco for rehab this week, but Brandon Webb's latest attempt at being a MLB pitcher again lit up the radar gun at a tops of 81.  Maybe the Rangers can use him for batting practice... for their 8th grade prospects.

3. Breaking News: Jason Terry is an Idiot- The 1st half was pretty encouraging for the Dallas Maverick's fan... until the Lakers were gifted 4 points in the final .7 seconds to take a 5 point lead to a 9 point lead.  Jason Terry shouldn't have been even close to Lamar Odom as he dribbled toward half-court for a desperation heave, but Jason Terry is an idiot.  We've seen it over the years with his emotional outbursts of girly punches to opponents groins and pushing around their smaller players, but this one was extra dumb.  The Mavs fan is used to bad calls and we wanted to yell at the ref for blowing his whistle on a no-touch foul to end the quarter, but replays clearly show that Terry slapped Odom's wrist to prevent him from having a good look at a freaking half-court shot.  The D-Fdub knows that we need Terry to create and come through on offense, but can we please find a safe place for him to sit on the end of the bench in key defensive stretches.

4. Breaking News: The Lakers Cheat-  Watch Bynum's pick and don't tell me the refs should swallow their whistle at the end of the game (ie see item #3)

5. Old News: Dirk is AMAZING- True Mavericks fans have known this for years.  While bandwagon jumpers and basketball nitwits have called for changes including Dirks game or roster spot, those that recognize a transcendent talent have not taken for granted our opportunity to watch one of the all time greats for the span of his career.  He is a true superstar who wants the ball and statistically comes through more than anyone else in the league.  Its nice to see a transition from the national naysayers that wanted him to fit into what they perceive the skill set for a 7-footer to be, to a recognition that he is a truly amazing player.  Charles Barkley said it best in last night's wrap up when he said Dirk has the size of a 5, he moves like a 4, he shoots like a 2, and he dribbles like a point guard.  We know Charles... he's amazing.
