Today's Daily Nickel consists of Five Apologies that I reluctantly have to make to the Sportsworld in light of what transpired this week:
Apology # 1- I apologize for being terrible at predictions. I made five predictions on Monday in the Nickel, and I was hoping that I'd at least get three of them right. Looking back, I only got two of them correct and one of them I cheated on. The Lakers finished off the Hornets a game too early, the Blazers lost to the Mavs, and the Thunder kept their brooms in the closet against the Nuggets. While 1 for 4 would be an 'out of this world' game for Julio Borbon, it's just not the level of success that I'm used to and I'll try to be better in future NBA rounds.
Apology # 2- This one hurts....I'm sorry JET. I hated on you for this entire season, and you actually came through (sort of) against the Blazers by averaging a little over 17 points in this series. JET also had a much better shot selection as he made a concerted effort to attack the defense and get to the rim rather than just settling for jumpers all the time. Now that I've apologized JET, you have to promise me that you'll stop the dumb turnovers like the three you committed last night in the most crucial points of the game.....deal?
Apology # 3- I'm sorry for the Vikings that they drafted Christian Ponder with the 12th pick of the NFL draft. I know, it's not really anything that I did wrong, but I feel bad for them. I understand that your current quarterback situation is deplorable (sorry Tarvaris), but that's no excuse for such a reach. A 'Christian Ponder' type talent would have surely been there for you when you picked 11th in the 2nd round.
Apology # 4- I'm sorry Mavs for doubting that you'd beat the Blazers. I'd like to point out that it was my doubt and scathing rebukes (via the D-Fdub's Daily Nickel) that inspired you to play winning basketball. I'm sure Dirk and the boys are reading the Nickel regularly, so I want them to know that I'm back on the bandwagon for the series with the Lakers. My prediction, Mavs in four (man, I'm good at these things). Here's hoping that Caron really does come back soon.
Apology # 5- Lastly, I'd like to apologize to Jerry Jones. Why? I thought Jerry would botch the # 9 pick last night and he didn't. Jerry drafted a large, athletic man to protect Tony Romo and to pave paths for the running game. Good work. Now, make me even more proud and draft Andy Dalton in the 2nd round. Why do I want Dalton when I love Romo so much? I like the idea of drafting Dalton, grooming him for two years, and then trading Romo for a plethora of pinatas...I mean for a plethora of picks. That way, you get your quarterback for the next decade in Dalton, and you get a bunch of talent to surround him with. Brilliant. The only problem with this plan is that the Bills or the Cardinals are both sure to snatch up Dalton before he gets to us when we pick # 8 in the 2nd round.
Can these red-heads lead the Cowboys to victory? I say yes.
