Super Bowl Etiquette

This post is written assuming that Sunday you will get together with your friends to watch the championship game of the best sport in the world. If you don't know what I'm talking about you're either foreign or female... or friendless. Aside from the readers suffering from one of the three f's, everyone is with me. I think it's appropriate, therefore, that we cover some ground rules to keep you safe and maximize your experience at these get-togethers.

Mavs 101, Celtics 97 - Kidd's late 3 keeps Mavs streaking

Dallas took their talents and a 6 game win streak to Boston, winners of 9 of their last 11 and owners of the best record in the eastern conference.
Boston also had four all-stars, a revved up home crowd, and probably the best defense in the league on their side, while the Mavs had Dirk.....and some other guys.  JJB has been playing better than decent lately and got the start as Dallas put out a 3-guard lineup from the tip.  Carlisle must have been on to something, bc the Mavs started off hot against Boston scoring 34 in the first quarter.  The team eventually cooled down and gave up the lead in the 4th.  Boston led by 6 with 2 minutes to go, but Dirk was straight money, finishing with 29 on 9-14 shooting, 21 of which came in the second half.  He had a huge and-1 in the closing minutes to bring the team within 1 and had the assist on the game winning 3 by JKidd w/ just 2 seconds left.

The Answer to the Question: Dirk vs Bird

In honor of Mavs v Celts tonight, I thought I’d touch on the age old Dirk v Bird comparison. It’s kind of weird they are always compared since they play a pretty different style. I mean if Dirk was a black dude, I’m pretty sure Bird wouldn’t be the guy people pick as his benchmark, but when you are a tall, white, blonde dude w/ a great shot and a funny accent, its basically a foregone conclusion. All the Dirk-lovers (i.e. me) will side w/ the German bc we’re MFFLs, his greatness is still fresh in our minds, and bc when you say Larry Bird we think primarily of the hick from the McDonalds horse commercials. All the Dirk haters will dismiss him bc he’s not athletic, doesn’t play good D, and isn’t a vocal enough leader. Those things may or may not be true, but to those people I say Tyson Chandler is athletic, plays solid D, and is a vocal/emotional leader but won’t ever come close to the greatness of Dirk and Bird so SHUT UP. I’m a numbers guy; let’s see what they tell us….

What's Wrong with Roddy B?

So, where’s Roddy B. Yeah, he’s supposedly coming back soon but man, it’s taken awhile. Why? Well, let’s chat. Roddy sustained a fracture to his 5th metatarsal (small toe) in early August while playing with the French national team. Yes, we’ve heard the news. But, why is it February and he’s not back?

Mavs enjoy a No-Nonsense win over the Knicks

I miss Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni not being in Phoenix anymore. When he was coaching the Suns, the Mavericks got to play against his team four times a year instead of only twice.
His team’s inability to play any defense whatsoever always makes for a really entertaining game. The Knicks played so little defense last year in the Garden when the Mavs came to the Big Apple that the Mavs won by 50 pts. This year was much the same as the Mavs cruised to their 33rd victory of the season winning 113-97.
Below are some news and notes concerning the Mavs 16 point win over the New York Knicks:

The Greatest Maverick (that isn’t American Born, who’s last name starts with a “N” and ends in a vowel) EVER

I haven’t always been a Mavs fan. In fact, when I was younger I wasn’t much of a sports fan at all! My mom was one of 4 daughters of an OB/GYN. She never played sports but still has a face shield and a foil in the garage from the ONE semester of fencing she took at Boston College. My dad was from NYC and played hockey at Boston University and grew up loving Mickey Mantle and the Yankees. I grew up in Austin where we didn’t have a whole lot of rinks that didn’t end in “mall” to go hit the ice and so hockey never really took off for me.

'Melo to the Mavs....A Delirious Daydream or a Possible Reality?

Dirk and Melo making championship plans?
One of the beautiful parts about being a Mavs fan is to know that Donnie Nelson and Mark Cuban are hardly ever satisfied with their current roster, and they are willing to make the necessary sacrifices to acquire the talent that they desire.  One obvious talent that any gm and owner would be crazy not to desire is the very available Carmelo Anthony.    The disgruntled Nuggets star small forward can be had if the team is right and if the price is right.
